If you’ve been browsing Red Hat Satellite tickets in Red Hat Bugzilla, you may have noticed a new big blue banner at the top of the screen. The banner is there to announce the migration of issue tracking from Red Hat Bugzilla to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com).
Moving from Red Hat Bugzilla to Red Hat Jira allows us to consolidate project tracking into a single application the Satellite project in issues.redhat.com is now the single source of truth for all development work. This migration to issues.redhat.com enhances Red Hat’s ability to plan and collaborate, while providing the freedom and flexibility to continuously share each stage of the process with customers and the community.
Why is Satellite transitioning from Bugzilla to Jira?
We have increasingly been using Jira to track development of the Red Hat product portfolio projects, and several products have already made the shift, such as RHEL.
The Satellite project is now doing the same, bringing another major product to the same tracking system. In addition to providing tooling alignment across the portfolio, Jira provides advanced visualization capabilities, intuitive hierarchy management and extensive REST API access. These features help Red Hat seamlessly and strategically plan and execute work across the enterprise, while supporting agile software development.
What does this really mean?
All new bugs or enhancements requested for Satellite need to be filed through issues.redhat.com. It is no longer possible to create new Bugzilla bugs (BZs) for the Red Hat Satellite product at bugzilla.redhat.com. All existing and open Satellite BZs at the time of the migration, have been migrated to tickets in the Satellite project on issues.redhat.com.
The BZs that were migrated have been closed with resolution MIGRATED. A pointer to the Jira ticket is included in the "Links" section of each respective BZ. As before, most new Satellite issues are publicly visible by default. There are no login requirements to view these issues. If you encounter a migrated issue that is not publicly visible, please leave a comment on the Bugzilla to let us know and we will investigate.
Anyone is welcome to create an account on issues.redhat.com to contribute, file issues, or simplyt see what we're up to. To help you get started, we've created a helpful article with the basics you need to get your account set up.
