レッドハット株式会社（東京都千代田区 平野正信社長）は本日、先に米国にて発表された世界で最も多く利用されているオープンソースサーバオペレーティングシステム環境の最新版、「Red Hat Linux 7J」の国内出荷について概要を明らかにした。
Red Hat Linux バージョン7J は開発者と企業ユーザに新しい機能と特徴を幅広い範囲で提供している。 エンハンスされたセキュリティ機能、利用が容易になる新しい特徴、3Dサポートの追加、企業がすぐ利用 できる新しいアプリケーションの数々と共に、Red Hat Linux 7Jは世界中で最も広く使われているオープ ンソース・サーバー環境の国内版としてますますそのリードを広げている。レッドハットはRed Hat Linux 7Jの発表に続き、国内においてもインターネットを利用したリアルタイムなオープンソース製品のディス トリビューション、サービス、サポートそして情報提供についての先駆となる新サービスである「Red Hat Network」を来春より提供していく予定である。

IDCの調査によれば、ここ2年で有料のLinuxほど出荷が急速に伸びたサーバ・オペレーティング・システムはないと いう。1999年は、Linuxの出荷量がサーバ・オペレーティング・システム市場の24.6％を占め、1998年の15.8％から 大幅に上昇すると予測されている。IDCは、現在最も普及しているのはRed Hat Linuxで、米国Linuxユーザの 68.7％が採用しているという数字を挙げている。また、調査会社のNetcraft, Inc.
