오픈 소스 분야의 세계적 선두주자인 레드햇(www.861278361.xyz)은 ‘제 1회 아시아 태평양 프로페셔널 오 픈 소스 소프트웨어 익스피리언스(Asia Pacific Professional Open Source Software Experience, 이하 POSSE)’를 개최한다고 밝혔다. POSSE는 고 등 교육기관에서 오픈 소스 과정을 가르치는 강사들을 위한 일종의 교육 캠프다. 2009년 11월 9일부터 13일까지 5일 동안 싱가폴에서 개최되며 한국 을 비롯, 중국, 인도, 호주 등 아세안(ASEAN) 국가에서 40여명의 오픈 소스 강사가 참석할 예정이다.
POSSE는 역동적인 오픈 소스 커뮤니티 를 만들기 위한 레드햇의 ‘아시아 태평양 오픈 소스 협력 혁신 (Asia Pacific Open Source Collaborative Innovation, 이하OSCI)’의 일환으로 마련되었으며 글로벌 오픈 소스 커뮤니티, 그리고 실제로 오픈 소스 개발 프로젝트 에 몸담고 있는 강사들을 위한 프로그램이다. 레드햇은 1년 내로 각국의 POSSE 세션을 통 해 최대 60개 교육 기관에 교육 기회를 제공할 계획이다.
아시아 총괄 사장인 게리 메서(Gery Messer)는 “POSSE는 강사들에게 오픈 소스의 근본이 되는 협력, 커뮤니티 그리 고 공유된 지식의 파워를 경험할 수 있는 환경을 제공할 것이다. 장기적인 목표는 강사들이 그들 의 실제 경험을 학교에서 가르 칠 수 있도록 하는 것, 그리고 학생들이 실제 커뮤니티에 기 반을 둔 오픈 소스 개발 프로젝트에 참여토록 독려하는 것이 다.” 라 고 밝혔다.
POSSE 프로그램에는 오 픈 소스 전문가들이 이끄는, 선별된 오픈 소스 프로젝트에 강 도 높게 참여하는 것이 포함되어 있다. 이 프로그램을 통해 참가자들 은 소스 코드를 작성하고 기여 하는 기술을 습득하게 된다. 또한 오픈 소스 커뮤니티를 위 한 소프트웨어 패키지 방법을 배우고 정밀한 디버깅과 테스팅을 수행 할 예정이다.
POSSE는 2009년 7월, 미국에서 처음 시작됐으며 ‘교수들을 위 한 오픈 소스 하계 체험 (Professors Open Source Summer Experience)’으로 알려져 있다.
