レッドハット株式会社（本社：東京都千代田区 平野正信社長）は、日本において2000年7月より実施され、高い評価を受けているRHCE系トレーニングコース（RH033、RH133、RH253）の各トレーニングコースに、今後RHAP（Red Hat Accredited Professional）認定資格を導入することを発表した。これにより、初級者・中級者としてのスキルも認定され、段階的なレベルアップが可能になるため、Linux普及への裾野が広がることも期待される。
Red Hat Linux総合トレーニングコース)、RH133 (Red Hat Linuxシステム管理コース)、RH253 (Red Hat Linuxネットワークサーバ構築およびセキュリティ管理コース)の3つのコースを設け、それぞれ好評を博している。しかし、RHCE認定資格は合格率が60%未満と難易度が高く、また、RH033、RH133、RH253のコース各々にレベルに合わせた技術認定のニーズが高まったため、今回RHAP認定資格を新たに開設することを決定した。
RHAPもRHCE同様、世界共通資格として認定され、取得者のスキルは海外でも同等として評価される。
RHAP資格は、各々のコースに対比し、RH033では「RHAP Bronze」、RH133では「RHAP Silver」、RH253では「RHAP Gold」が用意される。50問から構成される選択式問題であるRHAP認定試験で、80点以上（100点満点）正解すると、RHAP認定資格を取得することができる。試験は各トレーニングコースの最終日に行われ、トレーニングコース中の学習内容について問われる。また、Red Hatでは当面試験のみの提供は行わない予定。
