オープンソース・ソリューション最大手のレッドハット株式会社（本社：東京都千代田区 平野正信社長）は、組込みビジネスの拡大に伴い、組込み開発に対する機器、部品ならびにソフトウェアエンジニアリングで定評ある株式会社日立セミコンデバイス (本社：東京都千代田区 伊藤正義社長 ）と本日、業務提携を行ったことを発表した。
レ ッドハットは組込みビジネスについては、半導体ベンダーを中心にGNUPro(開発ツール、Linux あるいはリアルタイムOS 、eCos TM のポーティング、サポート等のビジネスを展開してきたが、昨今、コンシューマを対象としたデジタル機器の市場投入が相次ぎ、今後、こうした製品に対するサポートニーズの拡大が見込まれている。こうしたニーズに対し、レッドハットは、従来のサポートサービスに加え、エンジニアリングサービス部門の体制の強化に努めてきたが、本年に入って、情報機器メーカーを中心にカスタムシステム製品に対する開発サポートの受注が相次ぎ、エンジニアリングを含む、より広範なサポートビジネス体制の充実を迫られていた。
また、レッドハットが10月にリリースしたEmbedded Linux Devloper Suite(ELDS)でも同ボードは標準でサポートされている。今回の提携では、従来からの協調関係を、さらに押し進め、SuperH アーキテクチャをベースとしたOS カーネルあるいはデバイスドライバ、ミドルウェア開発などのインテグレーションビジネスのみならず、同社のボードを利用したレッドハット組込み開発者向けトレーニングコース（RHD ）のリセールなど組込みビジネス全般にわたって、広範なサービスを提供していく。
