Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), leader mondiale nella fornitura di soluzioni open source, ha annunciato che l’European University Institute (EUI) ha adottato Red Hat Enterprise Linux e JBoss Enterprise Middleware jBPM per la sua infrastruttura IT. Aperto nel 1976 per fornire formazione accademica avanzata, l’EUI offre uno dei più completi ed estesi programmi di dottorato e post-dottorato del mondo in scienze sociali a candidati provenienti da oltre 60 nazioni.
L’infrastruttura IT dell’istituto consiste in server RHEL sui quali girano alcune applicazioni mission-critical dell’università tra cui database Oracle e tool ETL di Pentaho. L’EUI non esclude di spostare in futuro altri componenti chiave dell’infrastruttura su soluzioni open source.

L’EUI ha implementato la soluzione Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Middleware jBPM, una flessibile suite di Business Process Management (BPM) che viene utilizzata per la gestione del workflow e, in particolare, per distribuire le informazioni necessarie per coordinare i servizi resi alle persone associate con l’Istituto. Il sistema – che riceve i dati da fonti eterogenee quali il database degli studenti e quello degli dipendenti - compila una sorta di ‘master record’ delle identità elettroniche dei presenti, consentendo all’istituto di sapere come le risorse vengono impiegate e fornendo i dati necessari ai sistemi di sicurezza.
