Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), leader mondiale nella fornitura di soluzioni open source, ha annunciato che Qualcomm Incorporated ha adottato Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization quale piattaforma di virtualizzazione per i carichi di lavoro in produzione.
Qualcomm aveva già implementato Red Hat Enterprise Linux nel 2003 ed è divenuta early adopter della tecnologia di virtualizzazione integrata nella piattaforma Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 nel marzo 2007. L’azienda ha preso parte anche al beta program Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization nel 2009, al fine di valutare prestazioni, scalabilità e densità offerte dalla soluzione.
“Dopo aver completato la valutazione formale di Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, abbiamo iniziato a inserire la soluzione nei nostri ambienti di produzione”, commenta Bob Gerling, staff IT engineer in Qualcomm. “Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization era il passo logico da fare nell’evoluzione della collaborazione che si basa su un utilizzo intensivo di Red Hat Enterprise Linux e della sua tecnologia di virtualizzazione integrata”.
Qualcomm oggi dispone di Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 quale sistema operativo di base e sfrutta l’hypervisor KVM integrato per avvalersi di Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 quale sistema operativo guest. Gestisce queste istanze virtuali con i tool di amministrazione compresi in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization.
